Steam dedicated server installation
Use SteamCMD through AI chat to install an official dedicated server, prepare its configuration, and check startup. Not every Steam game offers a self-hosted server. This plugin has no separate tab.
Before you start
- Install and enable the plugin, with an online Linux amd64 node and an empty workspace.
- The image must meet both SteamCMD and game library requirements, which may include 32-bit libraries. Prefer an image that already includes them.
- Provide enough disk and memory, download access, and file, terminal, and service control permissions in the current conversation.
arm64 and Windows-only servers are outside the default installation scope. Existing games, worlds, and main services are not automatically replaced.
Install the server
In the target workspace conversation, type
@and selectinstall-steam-games. You can also specify the target in a Panel conversation first.Provide the game name or official dedicated-server App ID, player count, and desired version. For example:
Install this game's Linux dedicated server in the empty workspace. Check the official App ID, dependencies, and ports, then show the installation plan.
Review the version, directory, resources, login requirements, and TCP/UDP ports. Complete any required approvals.
Wait for download, configuration, and startup checks, then test with a game client.
If login is required, handle the account, authorization, and verification codes through the game's official process. Keep passwords and Steam Guard codes out of AI chat. The plugin does not bypass ownership or licensing requirements.
Defaults and resuming
The default directory is /workspace/steam-games, with startup after installation. Change these in plugin settings or your request. The task records the selected version and progress; the startup script does not update the game on every launch.
After interruption, ask to continue the original task and check existing files and state first. A new subdirectory does not avoid a conflict with the workspace's current main service.
Common problems
- Server not found: check official dedicated-server availability, App ID, and platform.
- Download succeeds but startup fails: check game libraries, configuration, logs, and memory. A completed download does not prove startup.
- Players cannot join: check the game's TCP/UDP ports, mappings, firewall, and client version.
